Introduction to the Hole Opener

Hole Opener is a wellbore expansion tool used in oil and gas drilling engineering, mainly used to increase the diameter of the wellbore during the drilling process to meet the technical requirements of different drilling stages. It is usually installed on the drill string, located above the drill bit or at an appropriate position on the drill string, using rotation and cutting to expand the wellbore.

Main structural components:

l  Blade wings (cutting teeth): responsible for cutting rock layers, usually made of hard alloy or diamond materials to improve wear resistance.

l  Spindle (body): connects the drill string, bears torque and axial force, and maintains the stability of the reamer.

l  Flow channel system: provides drilling fluid circulation for cooling the blade and carrying away rock debris, reducing friction and drilling resistance.

Application fields hole opener

l  Wellbore enlargement

Expand the wellbore diameter during the drilling process to facilitate subsequent casing insertion or optimize the drilling trajectory. Suitable for expanding holes in various types of wells such as vertical wells, directional wells, and horizontal wells.

l  Wellbore stability

Reduce the risk of wellbore collapse and improve wellbore stability by reasonably expanding the borehole. Suitable for formations that are prone to collapse and shrinkage, such as mudstone, shale, and sandstone layers.

l  Deep and ultra-deep well drilling

Suitable for deep and ultra- deep well drilling, in order to smoothly insert large-sized casing and improve the completion quality of oil and gas wells.

l  Restoration and reuse of old wells

Used for repairing or reusing old wells, expanding the wellbore to meet new mining needs, such as acidification transformation, layered fracturing, etc. Suitable for maintenance and expansion operations of oil and gas wells, improving production efficiency.

l  Improving oil and gas recovery rate

Expand the wellbore during the completion stage, increase the exposed area of the oil and gas reservoir, enhance fluid flow capacity, and improve recovery efficiency. Suitable for reservoir renovation projects that require improving the permeability of oil reservoirs.
