Overview of Reamer

1. Concept

Reamer is a specialized tool used for drilling operations, mainly for expanding the diameter of the wellbore, correcting irregular shapes of the wellbore wall, and ensuring the smooth progress of drilling operations. Eye expanders are usually installed in drilling tool assemblies, located above or below the drill bit, and adjust the wellbore through rotation and cutting.

2. Function

Expanding wellbore diameter: During the drilling process, if it is necessary to increase the wellbore size to accommodate the installation of casing or other equipment, an expander can be used to expand the wellbore diameter.

Correcting wellbore trajectory: For wellbore deviations caused by geological changes or drilling processes, the expander can adjust the wellbore trajectory and improve its regularity.

Reduce wellbore instability: Eye expanders can effectively remove rock debris and protrusions on the wellbore, reduce the risk of well collapse, and improve drilling stability.

Reduce friction and improve drilling efficiency: In directional or horizontal well construction, the reamer can reduce the friction between the drilling tool and the wellbore wall, thereby improving drilling speed and construction efficiency.

3. Application scenarios

Conventional vertical drilling: used to maintain a smooth wellbore and ensure smooth casing insertion.

Directional and horizontal wells: Optimize wellbore shape, reduce friction, and improve drilling tool possibility.

Deep and ultra-deep wells: prevent wellbore shrinkage or collapse during drilling in long sections, and improve wellbore stability.

Workover and remedial operations: used to remove obstacles in the wellbore and improve the production capacity of old wells.

The reamer is an indispensable and important tool in modern drilling technology, widely used in oil and gas development, geothermal drilling, and other underground engineering fields.
